For this Classroom Close-Up we were invited to Amerman Elementary to check out Kim Chenoweth's STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) class as the kids wrapped up their coding projects. The students learned how to code a game and then created custom cardboard controllers using Makey Makeys.

For this Classroom Close-Up we were invited to Melissa Stendardo's Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Human Body Systems class at Northville High School. Students were finishing up a study on the human nervous system by participating in a lab where they observed how the body's reaction time to reflex and voluntary actions (reactions) is related to the degree of processing in the nervous system.

The lesson helped the 6th graders better learn why different odors smell differently. This lesson also helped them understand chemical formulas as they study matter.

2:08 Classroom Close-Up: Mr. Pak's NHS CAD Engineering Class Visits Cooke School Featured
For this Classroom Close-Up we tagged along with Gabe Pak's NHS CAD Engineering class as they toured Cooke School. The NHS students are looking at building adaptive equipment to help the Cooke students. They interacted with the Cooke students in the ConnectUS room which provides the students with an assembly line of stations, pressing buttons, pushing levers, and pulling knobs to perform various tasks, which produce items needed by other nonprofits. We will be following up with the CAD Engineering class once they have built their adaptive equipment for Cooke.

A couple weeks ago they were given a jar of caterpillars for them to take care of while they learned about the life cycle of a butterfly. Now it's time to release them into Northville!

3:03 Special Olympics Host Leadership Launch Event at Northville High School Featured
Recently, Special Olympics of Michigan hosted a Leadership Launch event at Northville High School. About 15 Unified Champion Schools from SE Michigan were invited to attend at NHS. Each school brought a handful of students with and without intellectual disabilities to participate in breakout sessions to identify their own leadership skills and core values.

2:01 CFCU Celebrates President's Day Essay Winners with Pizza Party Featured
The Community Financial Credit Union held it's annual President's Day Essay contest and received a record number of participants. This year's prompt was to explain which U.S. President should be on our currency that isn't already. The contest was open to 4th and 5th graders from the 50 schools CFCU partners with. Both winners were from Northville Public Schools! The 4th grade winner is Seerith Dhaliwal from Moraine Elementary and the 5th grade winner is Benicio Volpe from Winchester Elementary School. Both winners got to celebrate with a class pizza party!
