For this Classroom Close-Up we tagged along with Gabe Pak's NHS CAD Engineering class as they toured Cooke School. The NHS students are looking at building adaptive equipment to help the Cooke students. They interacted with the Cooke students in the ConnectUS room which provides the students with an assembly line of stations, pressing buttons, pushing levers, and pulling knobs to perform various tasks, which produce items needed by other nonprofits. We will be following up with the CAD Engineering class once they have built their adaptive equipment for Cooke.

Alright, hey everyone, I'm Mr. Pak, we are here today outside of my classroom, instead of the engineering wing over at the high school, we're over here at Cooke School. So we're doing a little collaboration with Cooke School. This is a CAD Engineering course. So the project we're working on is developing some adaptive equipment where we're going to use the engineering design process to help create some products that will help with our friends here at Cooke School, so come here and take a look. This is the ConnectUS program where they'll be doing a different assembly lines. The Cooke School students are learning some basic vocational skills and some skills just to be a little bit more independent and so today the engineering students at the high school are meeting them kind of as their clients but also observing, seeing how they can find ways to help them with different technology. So come on through. This is CAD Engineering class, Computer Aided Design, and today we're at Cooke and we're just going to like explore the things that happen here and some of the students because in our classroom we're going to make a computer that is able to help people with their daily needs, such as some of the people here at Cooke. So we're just going to try and get a feel of how they interact and what they need. There were a lot of stations that we went to and you could see how these people like interact with the world around them and the type of help they need. So for example, one station you had to pick up a bag with a magnet and so you can just see like how you can help people with like a basic task like that and so I'm hoping we can experience to create something in CAD class that will help.
