3:15 NPS Elementary Students Help Pack Food at Maybury Farm for Kids Coalition Against Hunger Featured
Every Monday in May, Northville sends a different group of elementary students to Maybury Farm to help pack food for Kids Coalition Against Hunger. "We've been partnering with Northville schools for probably 12, 13 years now. It becomes a mentoring outlet for both the parents, the Kiwanis groups that we work with and the kids. We really get them together to serve together and feed the needs of a global community," explained Michael Burwell, executive director, Kids Coalition Against Hunger. The kids helped put together the one and only meal Kids Coalition Against Hunger offers, Chicken Casserole. It consists of soy, dehydrated vegetable blend, vitamin seasoning, and rice. One bag can feed 6 adults or 12 kids at a cost of $2.10. The first third of the packages will be given to local community shelters, the second third goes to about 23 different countries, and the final third goes to natural disaster relief victims, in this case these meals will be shipped to Poland to help some of the refugees from Ukraine.

2:58 Record Number of Northville STEAM Fair Participants Featured
The 8th annual Northville STEAM Fair was held on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, inside Northville High School's gym.
Uploaded Apr 28, 2022
"STEAM Fair is an opportunity for any student in grades Kindergarten thru 12th to come up with a project, something that inspires them relating to STEAM, in any of the aspects: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math. And they can follow the Olympic theme of the year, they can choose from something else but really just have a passion to create, invent and share their love for that with everybody else," explained Kim Chenoweth, elementary STEAM teacher at NPS.
"We've never done anything like this and we wanted to go outside of our comfort zone and try something new that we've never done before," said Halima Mirza, 4th grader at Thornton Creek Elementary. "And we knew that not many people weren't doing this at our school so we wanted to try to do something that we haven't done before and we wanted to be more creative," explained Daniella Maroun, 4th grader at Thornton Creek Elementary.
"So my project was, I made like an app on my virtual reality headset which allowed you to visit the high school, it was a model of the high school so you can walk around and go inside the gym, the swimming pool or in the classrooms to walk around and see things," said Phillip Zhavoronkov, 10th grader at NHS.
"I heard that on an average year maybe about 70-80 presentations or projects are made and this year there's over 130 and I look around and there's so many elementary students here and it's just such an awesome, proud "momma moment" that there's so many kids that were really inspired by our brand new STEAM class this year to continue their excitement by having a project here. So it's been really fun to walk around and see all the kids and their projects," said Chenoweth.
"It's cool because it's every single grade together, there's kids from my grade, there's seniors here like my friends, and then there's little kids in elementary school that were probably not even born when I was in elementary school so it's interesting to see everyone come together for a science fair for our community," said Zhavoronkov.
This event was a partnership between Northville Public Schools and Northville Educational Foundation, with several sponsors. Thank you! -
1:18 Moraine Elementary 4th Graders Host Bake Sale Fundraiser for Ukraine Featured
Many of our schools have been holding fundraisers to help support Ukraine. The most recent being at Moraine Elementary where the 4th graders held a two-day bake sale. There was a wide variety of homemade baked goods available. Before the bake sale started, the 4th graders had a goal of raising $1,000.
Uploaded Apr 14, 2022
"So we have 8 habits and the 8th one is to Inspire Others and with the war going on in Ukraine I thought it would be a great idea to do a bake sale," said Sam Eichenberg, 4th grader at Moraine Elementary. "And inspire others to raise money too for other charities," added Emma Vethacke, 4th grader at Moraine.
Once you purchased your baked goods, the kids running the bake sale offered a paper sunflower for the customer to write their name on. "After the whole bake sale is over, we'll put sticks on them and we'll stick them in front of the school and it will be a mini sunflower garden," explained Vethacke.
In the end, the 4th graders raised nearly $4,000 to donate to Ukraine. Way to go Penguins! -
