Classroom Close-Up: Cooking with the Letter Y in Mr. Taiariol's Class
Featured
In this Classroom Close-Up, we visit Mr. Joe Taiariol's middle school dual-diagnosed special education class at Cooke School, where students explored the letter "Y" through a hands-on, sensory-rich experience in the vocational kitchen. The day began with students writing and sharing words that start with "Y," followed by an engaging cooking activity where they prepared yogurt parfaits. Students practiced their fine motor skills by chopping fruit and smashing cookies, and used augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices to choose their favorite toppings. It was a delicious way to blend language, life skills, and communication into one fun and meaningful lesson!
