The 9th annual Parent Camp and Wellness Fair is Saturday, February 3rd from 9-2pm at Northville High School. We have more than 40 presenting topics to choose from for the 3 breakout sessions. Our amazing high school counselors will be presenting on transitioning to high school and college planning 101. Plus, a teacher from the high school will be offering up strategies to help your student with time management and organization and how to manage distractions.

The assistant principal at Hillside Middle School will be offering strategies to help parents increase self motivation and resilience in their child. Our ESL (English Second Language) Department will be explaining how our ESL program works here at NPS. And Hillside's new school safety administrator will be talking to parents about the dangers of marijuana edibles.

Classroom Close-Up: Mr. Bartel, Hillside Middle School

For this Classroom Close-Up we were invited to Kurt Bartel's peer link gym class at Hillside Middle School. This class is new this year and provides an inclusive course where Peer Links students are partnered with students with disabilities in order to participate in grade level physical education activities but in a smaller, more supportive environment. During this class, students were working on floor hockey and basketball skills.

For this Classroom Close-Up we were invited to a collaboration with Katie Healy and Sonya Kalasho's 5th grade classes at Thornton Creek Elementary. The students read a few articles about Native Americans and were analyzing timelines and cause and effect relationships. The students were improving their informational writing skills by sharing their work and getting tips from their peers.

Silver Springs Celebrates 11th Annual Leadership Day

At Silver Springs Elementary School's 11th annual Leadership Day, parents were invited to learn about the school's 7 Habits directly from the students. Each grade taught a specific habit, and the day concluded with a collective session on the final habits. Students actively participated as emcees, tour guides, and in other roles, showcasing their leadership skills. The event serves as a dynamic and engaging way for both parents and students to embrace the principles of leadership.

For this Classroom Close-Up we were invited to Chris Jacobs AP Government class at Northville High School. The students were learning how increasingly diverse choices of media and communication outlets influence political institutions and behavior. The students played a game online called Bad News which simulates how misinformation and disinformation becomes part of our public discourse.
