Northville Public Schools Partners with Local Police for Crafting with a Cop Event

Northville Public Schools recently partnered with the Northville Township Police Department to host Crafting with a Cop, a unique event designed to build positive relationships between elementary students and local law enforcement. The most recent event was held at Moraine Elementary School, the event offered students the chance to create crafts alongside police officers and interact with Max, the department's therapy dog. The initiative aims to humanize police officers and foster trust within the community.

    The kids turned in their signed petitions and persuasive essays to Ms. Solensky and the lunch service director for their thoughts. The school has been selected to pilot the strawberry milk at lunch. If it's a hit, then all NPS schools will offer strawberry milk as an option next school year.

    For this Classroom Close-Up we were invited to Jessica Onkka's preschool class at Cooke School to see the students doing a group speech session and working on their communication systems. Cooke School is a special education center program that services students from twelve local school districts in Western Wayne County. Our population includes students ages 3 through 26 years old, who are severely cognitively impaired, severely multiply impaired, and students dual-diagnosed with a cognitive and emotional impairment.
