For this Classroom Close-Up we were invited to Jessica Onkka's preschool class at Cooke School to see the students doing a group speech session and working on their communication systems. Cooke School is a special education center program that services students from twelve local school districts in Western Wayne County. Our population includes students ages 3 through 26 years old, who are severely cognitively impaired, severely multiply impaired, and students dual-diagnosed with a cognitive and emotional impairment.

    A group of 4th graders at Ridge Wood Elementary learned about petitions. They decided to create their own for STRAWBERRY MILK.

    The kids turned in their signed petitions and persuasive essays to Ms. Solensky and the lunch service director for their thoughts. The school has been selected to pilot the strawberry milk at lunch. If it's a hit, then all NPS schools will offer strawberry milk as an option next school year.

  • Staff Welcome Back event 20222:46 Fresh Vibe at This Year's Staff Welcome Back Event Featured

    More than 600 Northville Public School staff members filed into the Northville High School auditorium for this year's staff Welcome Back event.

    Each school sat together donning their school apparel. Our new Superintendent, Dr. RJ Webber, filled the room with excitement, inspiration, and gratitude. Dr. Webber recognized those staff members who have worked for more than 20 years and beyond. And then there's our high school band director who has been teaching for 49 years!

    The Northville Educational Foundation shared some exciting updates to their Innovative Grants Program, Staff Giving, and Thank a Staff Campaign, which will be shared publicly soon.

    The highlight of the event was when a group of our students took the stage to conduct a gratitude circle, where they shared what they are grateful for here at NPS. A perfect pull at the heart strings! Moments of laughter and tears. This is our WHY! They are our why!

    After an inspiring Welcome Back session, it ended on a high note with the band playing the school fight song. We're ready to make 2022-23 school year the best year yet! We're ready for you students! Let's make it a great year!
