2-21-18 City of Northville Water Valve Repair/Water Advisory

The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) informed the school district that a water valve repair in the City of Northville take place beginning at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 with a boil water advisory going into effect at that time.

The schools/facilities that we anticipate will be impacted by the repair and subsequent boil water advisory include: Amerman Elementary School, Cooke Center Program, Hillside Middle School, Main Street School/Board of Education Offices, and our Transportation facility.

We anticipate that school will remain in session as scheduled  on Thursday, February 22, 2018 and Friday, February 23, 2018 for students and staff at Amerman, Hillside, and Main Street Early Childhood Program and Board of Education Offices.

However, school has been canceled for all Cooke students, including Cooke Satellite classrooms, on February 22, 2018, due to the unique needs of our Cooke students and the challenges a boil water advisory could create in caring for them. A decision regarding whether Cooke will remain closed for Friday, February 23, 2018, will be made tomorrow based on the status of the boil water advisory.

During the boil water advisory, we encourage students and staff at Amerman, Hillside, Main Street and our Transportation facility to bring bottled water to school and work. The district will also be stocking the schools with additional bottled water. Drinking fountains in the affected schools will be turned off or covered, and signs will be posted at sinks.

During a boil water advisory, the health department notes that vigorous handwashing with soap and tap water is safe for basic personal hygiene. The district will follow the recommendations of the Center for Disease Control Guidelines for Schools and Childcare Facilities during a water advisory.
