February 11th Parent Camp has something for everyone

Attention Northville parents! Whether your child is a kindergartener, a high school senior, or somewhere in between, there will be something for you at the second annual Parent Camp on Saturday, February 11, 2017. Hosted by the Northville Public Schools Office of Instructional Services, the camp will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at Northville High School, 45700 Six Mile Road, in Northville. Admission to the camp is free and there is no need to register in advance.

The event will include a Keynote Session featuring a panel of admissions representatives from colleges and universities big and small throughout the Midwest, along with 30 breakout sessions on topics of interest to parents today led by Northville Public Schools educators and community members who are experts in their fields. The  complete Parent Camp Program is attached.

Colleges and universities represented in the Keynote Session will include Alma College, Eastern Michigan University, Michigan State University, Oberlin College, Schoolcraft College and the University of Chicago. The panel will outline the college admissions process, as well as share insights into finding the “right fit” for your child, the changing world of higher education, and how to help your child successfully transition to life on his or her own. There also will be time for questions from the audience. In addition, representatives from the colleges and universities participating in the Keynote Session will host individual breakout sessions where families can learn more about the schools and their programs.

Parents will also have the opportunity to attend three 50-minute breakout sessions on topics including Supporting Your Elementary Student in Math at Home, What’s Up with Boys?, Helping Your Child Live a Purpose-Driven Life, A Conversation About Diversity and Culture, Trending Tech in the Classroom, Managing Middle School Anxiety, Fun Online Resources that Support Learning, STEM in Our Schools, Effective Time Management Tools, Raising a Self Not a Selfie, PSAT/SAT Assessment Information, and College Planning 101.
