Northville Public Schools is proud to announce that 74 Northville High School seniors have been recognized in the prestigious 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program, with 29 students named Semifinalists and 45 students honored as Commended Scholars.
This recognition places these students among the top academic performers nationwide. Semifinalists represent the top one percent of high school seniors in the country, while Commended Students are acknowledged for their exceptional academic promise.
More than 1.3 million juniors across 20,000 U.S. high schools entered the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) last fall. Only about 16,000 students nationwide were named Semifinalists, giving them the opportunity to compete for nearly $26 million in scholarships that will be awarded in spring 2026.
To advance to Finalist standing, Semifinalists must submit a detailed application, including information about their academic record, leadership experience, and extracurricular involvement. About 95 percent of Semifinalists are expected to move forward, with half of all Finalists earning the title of National Merit Scholar.
Northville Public Schools continues to be among the top-performing districts in Michigan, and this year’s group of National Merit Scholars reflects the district’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence and opportunity.
