Northville Public Schools to Transition to i-Ready Assessment in 2025–26

Northville Public Schools is excited to share an important update about how we support student learning and growth. Beginning in the 2025–26 school year, students in grades K–8 will transition from the NWEA MAP assessment to the i-Ready system for Reading and Mathematics.

What is i-Ready?

i-Ready is a comprehensive online program designed to support reading and math development. It has two main components:

  • i-Ready Diagnostic:
An adaptive assessment that identifies your child’s strengths and areas for growth. The test adjusts in difficulty as your child answers questions, providing an accurate picture of their skills without the pressure of a traditional test.

  • i-Ready Personalized Instruction:
After completing the diagnostic, students receive customized, interactive lessons tailored to their needs. These lessons adapt as your child progresses, helping to keep them engaged and growing at their own pace.

Why i-Ready?

During the 2024–25 school year, NPS conducted a comprehensive pilot program with teachers and students.
Following positive results and feedback, the Board of Education approved i-Ready last spring to replace NWEA as the district’s benchmark assessment tool.

i-Ready was selected because it:

  • Provides actionable, easy-to-understand data for teachers and families.
  • Offers personalized learning pathways for students.
  • Suggests instructional groupings to support differentiated learning in the classroom.
  • Helps monitor student progress more effectively.

What Families Can Expect

  • Diagnostic Testing Schedule
    • Grades K–5: Three times per year
    • Grades 6–8: Two times per year
  • Families will receive progress reports throughout the year.
  • Students will engage in weekly personalized lessons both at school and, if needed, at home.
    • Time on i-Ready should not exceed 45 minutes per subject per week.
    • Research shows that more minutes do not equal better results.

Recommended weekly time goals:

Grade Level ELA Math
K-2 30 Minutes 30 Minutes
3-5 45 Minutes 45 Minutes
6-8 20 Minutes 20 Minutes

How Families Can Support Students

You can help your child succeed by:

  • Making sure they get a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast before assessments.
  • Encouraging them to try their best — i-Ready is designed so students will get about half the questions correct as the test adapts to their level.
  • Reminding them to use paper and pencil for math problems.
  • Celebrating their progress and effort as they grow!
