Northville 4th Graders Explore Innovation at 11th Annual STEAM Fair

Northville High School was alive with energy and innovation on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, as it hosted the 11th Annual STEAM Fair—an event that brings together student creativity, curiosity, and problem-solving across the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).

Presented for the first time by the Northville Educational Foundation (NEF), this year’s STEAM Fair featured more than 150 student-led projects from across Northville Public Schools. Students from kindergarten through 12th grade showcased their ingenuity through a wide range of exhibits—from interactive technology and scientific investigations to original artwork and community-based engineering solutions.

A highlight of the day was the 4th grade field trip, where students from all six NPS elementary schools had the chance to explore the fair and—new this year—participate in three breakout sessions led by professionals working in STEAM careers.

The new breakout sessions took place in the high school’s auditorium, forum, and media center, giving students an inside look into the journeys and day-to-day work of professionals in STEAM fields.

“In addition to all of the student presentations we've had in the past,” Ferrara continued, “we've added three other rotations that the students can go through… and hear from individuals who have STEAM-related careers—about how they got to where they are, what they do in their jobs, and what types of things they do that are related to the things that these students learn in STEAM class.”

In the evening, the event opened to the public for a Community Open House, where families and community members explored the impressive displays of innovation and effort. NEF also awarded prizes and scholarships to outstanding projects submitted by students in grades 5–12.

“Every year it amazes me the level of these projects—whether it's a kindergartener all the way up to a 12th grader,” said Ferrara. “They're doing not only things that are age-appropriate but things that are well beyond what you would expect. The creativity, the thought that goes into it—every project has something that's well thought out, that's innovative, that's creative, that takes those letters of STEAM and incorporates the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.”

Ferrara noted that the connection between student projects and real-world possibilities was clearer than ever this year. “To see that in the projects and then also have the speakers here explaining how they were an artsy student in high school but now they are a clothing design engineer for Carhartt, or how they're an architect now, or how they work with drones—it's really cool to see the way that these projects can turn into careers in the long run.”

With growing opportunities, real-world connections, and student creativity on full display, the 2025 STEAM Fair proved to be more than just an event—it was a launchpad for the next generation of innovators, thinkers, and makers. Enjoy the 2025 STEAM Fair photo album.
