12-1-21 A Message from the Superintendent

It has been (and continues to be) an honor and a privilege to serve the students, families, and staff of Northville Public Schools since April of 1985, as Early Childhood Program Coordinator, Principal of Moraine Elementary School, Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services, and for the past ten years, as Superintendent.

Throughout these past thirty-seven years, I have had the honor of working with and learning from a tremendous cadre of educators, mentors, colleagues, board members, staff, parents, families, community partners, and perhaps most of all, our students – who have inspired me, challenged me to grow as an educator and a human being, and have contributed to Northville Public Schools’ longstanding tradition of excellence, and our collective journey to open a World of Possibilities for and with each of our students.

I am wholeheartedly committed to continuing this journey throughout the 2021-22 school year, and to supporting the transition process.  As difficult as it is for me to write this letter, I look forward to the opportunity to spend more time with my family, have more flexibility with my time, and find other ways to contribute to this great community.

My hope is that this notice of my intent to retire at the end of June, 2022 provides ample time for the Board of Education, with the input of the staff, students, families and community of Northville Public Schools, to conduct a thorough search and selection process and a thoughtful leadership transition.  At the Board of Education’s 11/30/21 Committee of the Whole meeting, the Board determined that it will develop and issue a Request for Proposals from superintendent search firms in the coming weeks, in order to initiate the process.

With an exceptional team of educators and staff across our schools, involved students and families whose voices are valued and essential to the learning process, and strong community partnerships and support, I am confident that the NPS team will continue to build upon the powerful culture of learning and leadership that has long exemplified Northville Public Schools while forging new pathways toward opening a World of Possibilities for and with each learner.
