NPS School Boundary Adjustment Proposed for Northville Downs Property

Many of you may be aware that plans for the development of the Northville Downs property in the City of Northville are currently in the review process through the Northville Planning Commission.  As described on the
City of Northville / Planning Commission website, “Hunter Pasteur Northville, LLC is proposing to redevelop the racetrack area into single-family homes, town homes, high-end apartments, luxury condominiums, commercial space, and public space in the form of three public parks and pocket parks throughout the site.”

The potential for future growth in enrollment is a positive for the school district, and we anticipate having more than adequate space to take on additional enrollment based on our projections.   That said, the property surrounding Northville Downs is currently assigned to Amerman Elementary School, which has the district’s largest elementary enrollment, while significant capacity exists at Silver Springs, our elementary school with the smallest enrollment.

To address this potential growth in enrollment in a proactive manner, the Northville Board of Education and district officials are proposing an adjustment to the Amerman Attendance Boundary to assign any future Northville Downs housing development to the Silver Springs elementary school attendance area.  This would result in a corresponding change in middle school attendance boundaries as well, with the Downs Development moving from the Hillside attendance boundary to the Meads Mill attendance boundary.  Capacity also exists at Meads Mill Middle School.

This proposal does not impact existing Northville Public Schools families.  Instead the proposed adjustments to attendance areas proactively assigns an area slated for future development to the elementary and middle schools with capacity for growth that also makes sense geographically.  The boundary adjustments would not impact families with students currently enrolled at Amerman, Silver Springs, Hillside or Meads Mill.
School families are invited to offer input on the proposed attendance boundary adjustments for Amerman, Silver Springs, Hillside and Meads Mill during the Northville Board of Education meetings on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, 6:30 p.m. at Hillside Middle School, 775 North Center Street, Northville, MI and/or Tuesday, November 16, 2021, 6:30 p.m. at Thornton Creek Elementary, 46180 West Nine Mile Road, Novi, MI.  In addition, you can send your questions and comments to [email protected] for follow up by the appropriate district administrator. The Board anticipates making a decision on the proposed boundary adjustments as early as the November 16th meeting.

As always, we welcome your comments, questions, concerns and feedback. Thank you for your continued support of Northville Public Schools and for your partnership as we work collectively to support our students and their learning.
