11/30/20 to 1/11/21 COVID-19 Extended Learning Plan Adjustments

Dear Northville Public School Families, Staff and Students,

On Tuesday, November 23, 2020, the Northville Public Schools Board of Education unanimously approved several short-term adjustments to the District’s current COVID-19 Extended Learning Plan from November 30, 2020 through January 11, 2021, including a shift to full Virtual learning for all students from Monday, November 30, 2020 through Tuesday, December 8, 2020, along with several adjustments based on grade level/program and an anticipated week of full Virtual learning the week following the December winter recess, from January 4, 2021 through January 11, 2021.

This decision was made following consideration of the Wayne County Public Health Advisory for all Public, Non-Public and Boarding Schools in Wayne County issued late Friday, November 20, 2020, that contained a strong recommendation from health officials for a temporary shift to full Virtual learning model from midnight on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 through January 15, 2020.    The Board also reviewed the school district, local and state COVID-19 data, the Health Department’s review of the District’s COVID-19 strict mitigations measures in place, and considered input received from parents,  staff and community members.   Additionally, the Board weighed the myriad of factors discussed throughout the process of adopting the District’s COVID-19 Extended Learning Plan, including instructional considerations, social emotional health and wellbeing, and the health and safety of students, families and staff members.

The following chart outlines the overall plan for high school, middle school, elementary school, and our Cooke Center program from November 30, 2020 through the end of January, 2021, barring any significant changes in the risk level for COVID-19:

This plan will remain in place through January, 2021, unless there are any significant changes in health and safety guidelines or risk levels that would allow for an earlier return to in-person instruction, or necessitate a continuation of virtual learning for a period of time.  The Northville Public Schools COVID-19 Extended Learning Plan will continue to be reviewed by the Board of Education on a monthly basis.

Specific information about your students’ schedule will be disseminated by each of our schools, and teachers.  If you have any questions or concerns, please check first with your student’s teacher, counselor, and/or case worker if applicable.  If you have additional questions,  please contact the Office of Instruction at 248-344-3520, or the Office of Special Services at 248-344-3530, or send an email to NPS@northvilleschools.org, and your message will be forwarded to the appropriate office for a response.

As a reminder, all students whether in person or virtual, may order a free lunch online via the nutrislice website.  Online learners' lunches can be picked up in the west parking lot (Athletics Department) entrance of Northville High School (45700 Six Mile Rd.) between the hours of 11 am and 1 pm each school day.  Please note that orders must be in by 8 am each morning.

Technology Support

If your student is in need of a device, please contact the Office of Instruction at 248-344-3520. Visit the District’s Technology Troubleshooting document for detailed technology assistance.

In closing, please know that we share the disappointment caused by any reduction of our in-person learning opportunities. Our students, staff, and families have come together in incredible ways to implement safety protocols and adjust to new practices for in-person instruction, and the results have been clear in limiting COVID-19 transmission in school to nearly zero from what we are able to ascertain.  We will remain vigilant in these practices during in-person instruction, and believe that these efforts, combined with reducing spread within the community, provide the greatest opportunity to continue uninterrupted in-person instruction.  We appreciate the many sacrifices our staff, our students, and our families continue to make as we navigate these challenging times, and we are grateful for your partnership as we work together to promote the learning, safety, health and well-being of all.  We wish our families a safe and Happy Thanksgiving, however different it may be this year, and encourage everyone to work together to take the necessary steps both inside and outside of school to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Sincerely,

Mary Kay Gallagher
