School Reentry Update; Stakeholder Survey Results; Next Steps

For those who would like to listen in/view the 7/28/20 Committee of the Whole meeting (password: 41fdDo=k)

Additionally, please find a copy of the 7/28/20 slide deck from the Committee of the Whole meeting attached below,  and view the July 2020 Stakeholder Re-entry Survey Results. These results include feedback on the various scenarios.

Next week, at the 8/4/20 Special Call meeting of the Board of Education, which will take place virtually via zoom webinar beginning at 6:30 p.m., the Board will vote on the scenario(s) at each level (elementary, middle, high school, Cooke, ECEEDP) to be adopted in Phase 4 and/or 5 of Michigan’s Safe Start Plan. Following decisions on the scenarios on 8/4/20, the District’s COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Plan will be finalized and brought forward to the Board of Education on 8/11/20 for approval. (State of Michigan deadline for approval of plan is August 15, 2020, with posting on the District website by August 17, 2020.)

A huge note of gratitude goes out to everyone involved in the work of our Task Force, Action Teams, Curriculum/Content work, Summer School programming, presentations to the Board of Education, Summer Nutrition program, Bond program, Emergency Operations/COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Planning, along with those who have attended meetings, provided comments and/or suggestions.

We continue to monitor the ongoing and emerging information and guidance, and know that this continues to be an incredibly challenging set of circumstances to navigate. As information becomes available, and as we make our way through the most commonly asked questions, we are adding the information and FAQs posted on our District website. There is no one clear answer, other than knowing that all of us, together with our students, our families and our community seek the connections, the learning opportunities and the strong relationships that our schools are known for, and that we all want to move forward in a manner that balances safety, physical and emotional health and wellbeing, and learning.

Take care and be well,
Mary Kay
