Council of PTAs

Northville Council of PTA's Mission Statement

The mission of the National PTA is to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.

For over 100 years, the Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) and Parent Teacher Student Associations (PTSA) in Michigan have mobilized the forces of school, home, and community in order to ensure a quality education and nurturing environment for every child. In Northville, the powerful collaboration between our PTAs/PTSAs and Northville Public Schools creates a thriving environment for our students. This partnership drives everything from enrichment programs to community events, ensuring they transition from ideas to reality and include all famililes.

As a founding member of the Northville C.A.R.E.S. for Youth Advisory Council, PTAs are excited to share information and resources across our community. Northville Council of PTAs work with other community organization in providing programs and activities that will benefit children directly or indirectly. The Council continues to work with local PTA/PTSA leaders to help strengthen their commitments to parents, teachers and students in the following ways.

Advocacy

PTA has worked with school communities and decision makers to solve the toughest problems in our nation’s history. Our Advocacy Committee’s goal is to protect the interests of children’s education in Lansing and Washington D.C. in a non-partisan approach. Our purpose is to inform parents about important education issues at the state or federal level and to encourage people to contact legislators to make sure their voice is heard.

Community Engagement

PTAs work closely with other Northville and community organizations to bring relevant information to our families. The Council works to organize, collaborate with others and assist in the execution of community wide speakers on relevant and timely topics that will help parents handle parenting issues. Events will take place throughout the year and information will be made available to all in the community.

The Council is able to assist in the funding of many programs through the annual school supply kit fundraiser. The sales of the kits at our elementary and middle schools occurs each spring.

Thank you to all families who find the time to volunteer or attend the events throughout the year. Your time, efforts and continued support provided to our kids, schools and community are greatly appreciated.

Reflections Program

The national PTA believes all children deserve a quality arts education and inspires students to reflect on a specific theme and create original art. Each year, students in grades K through 12 are recognized for bringing the theme to life through any of the six categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography and Visual Arts. The Special Artist division is a non-judged division for qualifying students. Awards are given at the local, state, and national levels. Students may enter in one or more of the six categories.

Students will submit their artwork to their school PTA for initial judging. Please reach out to your local PTA unit to confirm deadlines and obtain any required applications to enter.
