Limited School of Choice

There is no cost for the program (with the exception of applicable IB fees and extra-curricular fees) and accepted students will be allowed to attend Northville Public Schools through the completion of high school.

• In-District "Open Enrollment" requests are for residents of the Northville Public School District only. Proof of residency is required.
• PA-227 is a Schools of Choice option for regular employees of Northville Public Schools who are not residents of the District.
• Section 105 and 105c are Limited Schools of Choice options for residents that fall under the auspices of the Wayne County RESA, or an Intermediate School District that is contiguous with Wayne County. Proof of residency is required. All Limited Schools of Choice options are determined by the Board of Education on an annual basis.

• The application period for In-District Open Enrollment is normally in the spring / summer of each school year for the following school year. Please check the website for updated information and deadlines.
• The application period for Limited Schools of Choice (105/105c), in any year in which it is approved by the Board of Education, is typically in the spring / summer, with adherence to mandated public notices and application timelines.

Applications for Limited Schools of Choice (Section 105/105c) are available at the Central Administrative Office, 405 West Main Street, Northville, MI 48167, and on the website www.northvilleschools.org. They must be returned to the Office of Human Resources by the deadline noted on the application. They can be hand delivered or mailed. If mailed, they must be postmarked no later than the deadline.

Placement options are determined on an annual basis and based upon current building enrollment, projected enrollment, budget constraints, staffing allocations, program criteria applied to resident students and number of requests. If requests exceed openings, a lottery will be held.

No. All applications are reviewed for program eligibility following the deadline and all qualifying applications have an equal chance of placement based on the above criteria. If the number of applications received exceeds the number of openings, a lottery will be held.

Annually, the District will assess current and projected building enrollment along with budget constraints and staffing allocations to determine if a building or grade level will be open or closed to all incoming Schools of Choice students, including siblings of students already in attendance. For the 2025-26 school year a Limited Schools of Choice option is available for up to five (5) 11th grade students and up to five (5) 12th grade students at Northville High School for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program.

Should the Limited Schools of Choice program be continued in subsequent years, siblings will have a preference. Sibling preference exists **ONLY** if two siblings would be in attendance at the same school at the same time and the building is open as a Limited Schools of Choice option. If there are more sibling requests than space permits, a lottery will be held.

In-District Open Enrollment applicants are placed first, followed by PA-227 applicants and then Section 105/105c when that particular choice option is opened by the Board.

Transportation is only provided to resident students who attend the school within their address boundary.

No. After completion of any given level (i.e., elementary, or middle), the administrative office responsible for PA 227 and Section 105/105c (if any) will determine the assigned school based upon current building enrollment, projected enrollment, budget constraints, and staffing.

Yes. The student may continue and complete the program.

No. The student was accepted specifically for enrollment in that program. Unless s/he continues in the Diploma Program, the student would no longer be eligible to attend NHS.

It is desirable that a student who transfers pursuant to the Limited Schools of Choice (Section 105/105c) program remain at the selected school for that educational level (i.e., elementary, middle, or high). However, upon request, a Limited Schools of Choice student will be allowed to return to their home school (at the beginning of the next school year). Once returned to their home school, a student is ineligible to apply for Limited Schools of Choice at that level again.

No. At the end of the current semester, the student must register in his/her home district.
