About Food Service

About NPS Food Services

Northville Public Schools Food Service is committed to providing high-quality, nutritious meals that meet the guidelines of the National School Lunch Program while considering student preferences.

Our Commitment to Healthy Meals

In alignment with the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, school lunch menus were updated beginning July 1, 2012. This federal legislation promotes healthy eating habits and addresses childhood obesity and hunger by ensuring meals are well-balanced and nutritious.

Key changes include:

  • Fruits and Vegetables: Required daily servings of both, with a weekly variety including dark green, red/orange, legumes (dry beans and peas), starchy, and other vegetables.
  • Whole Grains: At least half of all grains offered must be whole grain.
  • Milk Options: Only fat-free or 1% milk is served.
  • Nutritional Standards: Meals follow strict guidelines for calories, saturated fat, trans fat, sugar, and sodium.
