Genna Davis is a mom on a mission. She has two kids that attend Amerman Elementary. Her kids pointed out their rusty playground, begging for a new one. Ms. Davis started a campaign to raise funds for a new playground. With the community's help, they have raised enough money for Phase 1 of the Amerman Playground Project. Phase 1 installment will happen Summer 2022. Fundraising efforts are still underway so they can make Phase 2 a reality. "The only stories I get are mostly from the playground from my kids," says Genna Davis, parent. "Well, I grew up in Northville, I moved back here to raise my kids here and they're both going to Amerman. So through Covid, I think, the playground became somewhere where they could just be normal and have fun. Because of that, we went to a lot of playgrounds during Covid, so they were checking out other playgrounds and was like, couldn't Amerman be so much cooler and updated. And I was like, yeah, it could, so let's try," said Davis. Genna Davis became a mom on a mission...to bring new life to the Amerman Elementary playground. "Through so many people, through the whole community too are like, this was there when I was in school and I'm 50 and I'm 60, so it was like oh my goodness, this stuff has been there forever. And I think we're one of the last ones to really get an update. They did a little bit of updating but every other school's got some new fancy exciting playground equipment, so it's about time for Amerman to get some too," said Davis. Here's the vision...this playground design is geared toward more cooperative play. They also plan to build a Bobcat Legacy Garden. Through several fundraisers and a website campaign, Phase 1 of the project can start this summer. And she wasn't the only one raising money. "It all started with the Econ Fair. So our teacher, Mrs. Parnin, at the beginning of the school year she had this Econ Fair because we were learning about the economy in Michigan, so at the end, we were selling products to other classes in the third grade and after that that inspired us to sell to the school for the new Amerman playground," explained Cameron Colagiovanni, 3rd grader. Little entrepreneurs, Ben Pianin and Cameron, combined their Econ Fair businesses of stress balls and bracelets and set up a shop in the hallway. "Really successful, on the third day we got $500, well we sold out at $300 and then there were orders. And now just can't keep up with demand actually," says Colagiovanni. Everyone is pitching in for a new playground. "It seems like an upgrade to the old one. And some of the playgrounds, right now our playgrounds are kind of rusted and if we get like a new one, everything will be brand-new and the school would probably like that," says Colagiovanni.
