All six of Northville Public Schools’ elementary schools are actively engaged in the transformational The Leader in Me process. The Leader in Me is an innovative, school-wide model that empowers students to be leaders in the 21st century. Through the initiative students in kindergarten through fifth grade embody Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, which are designed to teach leadership.
Ridge Wood and Winchester elementary schools are in their second full year of implementation of The Leader in Me process, and Amerman and Thornton Creek are in their first full year in their journey. With all six of our schools embracing The Leader in Me framework, the opportunity to build on a unified culture of leadership and learning across our elementary schools has never been greater. In addition, The Leader in Me work at the elementary level aligns with the Learner Profile development that is part of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program for our sixth through 10th graders.
The Leader in Me centers around cultivating students in the following 7 Habits:
Habit 1 - Be Proactive
Habit 2 - Begin with the End in Mind
Habit 3 - Put First Things First
Habit 4 - Think Win-Win
Habit 5 - Seek First to Understand then be Understood
Habit 6 - Synergize
Habit 7 - Sharpen the Saw
