Hillside Construction Project Gets Under Way Over Spring Break

Dear Northville Community Members and Hillside Neighbors,
The purpose of this letter is to keep our families, community members and Hillside neighbors apprised as Northville Public Schools begins work on a major, multi-year construction and renovation project at Hillside Middle School, 775 North Center Street, Northville.
Construction crews will take advantage of next week’s Spring Break for Northville students and staff to erect construction barriers in the Hillside back parking lot, blocking access to the lot for students, parents and community members beginning Monday, April 8, 2019. (Click here to see the detailed construction site plan including adjustments in student drop off and pick up procedures and staff and visitor parking.) The barriers will remain in place in some manner or another until construction concludes in spring 2021.
You also should be aware that in preparation for the start of construction, the Northville Parks and Recreation Offices at Hillside have been temporarily relocated to the first floor of the Northville Township Hall, 44405 Six Mile Road, Northville, for program registration, facility and park or athletic field rentals and dog park memberships. Parks and Rec will continue to use the Hillside gym for programs and activities primarily after school hours.
For your planning purposes, there will be some visitor parking near the front of the school during construction, with additional staff and visitor parking available in the new lot across Eight Mile, near the football field. Parents and community members may use the lot when visiting the school or attending Parks and Recreation or other community or athletic events taking place at Hillside.
The Hillside construction and renovation project, which includes a two-story academic wing addition on the west side of the existing school, is the most significant of the $104.85 million Bond 2017 projects approved by voters in November 2017. The result will be a mostly new, modern middle school, located at the same, popular, near-downtown location.
The Bond 2017 program is the culmination of a two-year facility and infrastructure planning initiative by the school district to upgrade the district’s aging buildings to support learner-centered school communities and enhance safety.
For questions or additional information about the Hillside construction project, email or call 248‐344‐3540. Regular Bond 2017 Construction Updates also are available at click on “2017 Bond Construction Updates.”
We thank you for your understanding and patience during this construction period as we strive to provide our students and teachers with learning environments that meet 21st century teaching and learning practices.
