High School ML Program

Our Multilingual Learner (ML) Program is dedicated to supporting students who are learning English while succeeding in their content classes. We value the rich linguistic and cultural backgrounds our ML students bring to our schools.

ML Classes

Students receive direct English Language Development instruction from the ML Teacher. These classes are typically for students whose WIDA proficiency level is 1.0-3.0, although exceptions are made on a case-by-case basis, depending on each student’s needs. Classes meet for 90 minutes.

The beginners class  meets every day. The intermediate/advanced class meets every other day.

Our curriculum is Savvas’ iLitELL, which focuses primarily on rigorous and relevant grade level texts. The ILitELL program has built-in vocabulary development, and provides flexibility and adaptive skills instruction in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students also receive support on assignments for their content classes during ML class time.  Weekly service time for this support is 225-450 minutes.

Consultation

Students’ test scores and grades are monitored and recorded, along with consistent communication with teachers. This is for students whose WIDA proficiency is 4.0 or higher, or for students who already receive daily support and interventions from other departments.
