Elementary ML Programs

Our Multilingual Learner (ML) Program is dedicated to supporting students who are learning English while succeeding in their content classes. We value the rich linguistic and cultural backgrounds our ML students bring to our schools.

ML Classes

ML classes take place during the school day at your child's school.  It is for students whose English proficiency is at a WIDA level 1.0-2.9 and sometimes 3.0 based on their most recent WIDA or WIDA Screener score. ML classes are 2-5 times per week, for 30-45 minutes, depending on your child's needs. We work with National Geographic's REACH Curriculum, which is a Science and Social Studies theme-based curriculum, among other resources.  We focus on activities and tasks that promote listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills to improve your child's English proficiency.  If, at any point, we decide that your child needs less support, you will be notified.

ML Push-in Support

Push-in support happens in your child's classroom, 2-5 times per week, with an ML teacher or paraprofessional.  This allows for your child to receive additional support within their classroom setting. This is for students whose English proficiency is at a WIDA level 1.0-3.9 based on their most recent WIDA or WIDA Screener score. This service is on an as-needed basis, and may change if we feel that your child needs less or more support.

Consultation

Consultation/monitoring is when the ML teacher is closely watching/checking in on your child's progress and academic success in the classroom. We collaborate with his or her classroom teacher(s), check grades and test scores, etc. to make sure that he or she is progressing well without additional ML support.  This is for students with an English proficiency at a WIDA level 4.0-6.0, based on their most recent WIDA or WIDA Screener score.
