IB Assessments

MYP - High School - Grade 10

The personal project formally assesses students’ approaches to learning (ATL) skills for self-management, research, communication, critical and creative thinking, and collaboration.

The project is made up of a process, a product and a reflective report.

  1. process —ideas, criteria, developments, challenges, plans, research, possible solutions and progress reports
  2. product or outcome—evidence of tangible or intangible results: what the student was aiming to achieve or create
  3. report—an account of the project and its impact, to a structure that follows the assessment criteria. The report describes both the process of creating the project and an evaluation of the impact of the process on the student or their learning.

The report is assessed by the supervisor and externally moderated by the IB to ensure a globally consistent standard of excellence. Each project is awarded a final achievement grade.

DP Assessments (Grades 11 & 12)

For the IB Diploma Program courses, students' final marks in each course (1-7) are determined by a mixture of Internal and External Assessments.

Students take written examinations at the end of the programme for each of their six subject group courses (at either higher level or standard level), which are marked by external IB examiners. Students also complete assessment tasks in the school:

  • Internal assessments are initially marked by teachers and then reviewed by external moderators
  • External assessments are sent directly to external examiners for marking

Students will ultimately receive a score from 1-7 (with 7 being the highest) on each of their six subjects based on the internal and external assessments and the final IB examination scores. Students may also be rewarded up to three additional points based on their performance on the TOK external assessment and the extended essay.

The diploma is awarded to students who gain at least 24 points, subject to certain minimum levels of performance across the whole programme and to satisfactory participation in the CAS requirement. The highest total that a Diploma Programme student can be awarded is 45 points (scoring a 7 in all six IB subjects and gaining the 3 additional points).
