Thornton Creek Students Dig In for Annual "Make A Difference Week"

A group of young students works together, leaning over a garden patch to dig a hole with shovels and hand tools.

The campus of Thornton Creek Elementary received a vibrant update thanks to the hard work and teamwork of its student body. Carrying on a proud annual tradition, students stepped away from their traditional classroom routines to participate in "Make A Difference Week," a school-wide initiative focused on campus landscaping and environmental stewardship.

The week began with safety and instructional briefings, where staff members demonstrated proper tool handling and distributed gardening gloves to the eager volunteers. From there, students of all grade levels took direct ownership of the school grounds.

Divided into teams, the children tackled various stages of the landscaping process. Group efforts were required to haul large utility carts loaded with mature, potted shrubs and greenery across the pavement to designated planting zones. On-site, students worked side-by-side with staff and adult volunteers, using shovels and spades to break ground, dig planting holes, and settle the new additions into the soil.

This annual event offers students a tangible way to practice civic responsibility and community care. By working together to beautify their shared spaces, the Thornton Creek student body successfully demonstrated the lasting impact that cooperation and hard work can have on an entire school community.
