Meads Mill Middle School Celebrates 50 Years of Learning, Community, and Tradition

The celebration featured a warm welcome from Principal Melissa Provo and Assistant Principal Will Lambdin, with former longtime Meads Mill principals Sue Meyer and Brad O’Neill returning to connect with the community. Guests also heard reflections on Meads Mill’s history and its lasting impact on generations of Northville students.

The program included remarks from Northville Township Supervisor Mark Abbo and City of Northville Mayor Brian Turnbull, who presented a proclamation signed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer honoring the school’s 50 years of service. Special guest and Meads Mill alum Supriya Kelkar, a celebrated author, also attended the celebration.

Throughout the evening, attendees enjoyed a variety of special touches, including a live painting of the original 1830’s Meads Mill which was a flour mill, yearbooks from the past 50 years, and displays featuring notable Meads Mill alumni, such as professional athletes, musicians, authors, and illustrators. Many former and current Meads Mill teachers returned for the event, reconnecting with students and families.

The entire Northville Board of Education was present, and Superintendent Dr. R.J. Webber delivered an inspiring address highlighting the beauty of public education and its positive impact on students' lives and the community.

The celebration was made even more special thanks to generous food donations from several local restaurants, adding to the warm, community-centered atmosphere of the evening.

The 50th Golden Celebration was a heartfelt tribute to Meads Mill’s enduring legacy, its dedicated educators, and the many students who have passed through its halls, while also expressing an optimistic outlook for the decades to come.
