Literacy and Collaboration Take Center Stage at NPS Professional Development Day

Northville educators engaged in K-5 literacy workshops at elementary sites and collaborative secondary and special education training at Northville High School.

While students enjoyed a day away from the classroom on Thursday, April 16, Northville Public Schools (NPS) educators were deeply engaged in a day of professional development designed to elevate instructional practices across the district.

Targeted Literacy Work Across Elementary Sites

For K-5 educators, the day was defined by a shared mission: the ongoing implementation of the district’s newly adopted HMH Literacy resources. Rather than a single meeting, teachers gathered at specific grade-level "host sites" to share best practices:

  • Young 5s & Kindergarten: Winchester

  • 1st Grade: Moraine

  • 2nd Grade: Silver Springs

  • 3rd Grade: Amerman

  • 4th Grade: Thornton Creek

  • 5th Grade: Ridge Wood

High School Hub: Secondary and Special Education Collaboration

While elementary teams were at their respective sites, Northville High School served as a major center for secondary and specialized instruction. By dedicating this time to mastering new literacy tools and aligning instructional goals, NPS ensures that its staff is prepared to meet the evolving needs of all learners.

As Northville staff return to their classrooms, they do so with renewed collaboration and a toolkit of research-based strategies ready for immediate student impact.
