NORTHVILLE, Mich. — Amerman Elementary School officially has a new leader at the helm for the upcoming school year. The Northville Public Schools Board of Education has approved the hiring of veteran educator and administrator Lauren Elek as the school’s next principal.

"I'm excited to become part of Northville Public Schools and join the Amerman family," Elek shared. "I'm looking forward to getting to know our students, staff, and families, building strong relationships, and working together to continue Amerman’s tradition of excellence. I feel very fortunate to have the opportunity to join such a special school community and can’t wait to get started!" - Lauren Elek

District leadership shares that enthusiasm for her arrival. "We are excited about both the extensive leadership experience Ms. Elek brings from across multiple school buildings and her strong commitment to partnering collaboratively with the Amerman community," stated Emily Pohlonski the Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Services.

Elek steps into the role with 23 years of elementary education experience, including 13 years in administrative leadership. She relocated to Michigan from Charlotte County Public Schools in Florida, where she served as a principal and assistant principal, previously being named the district's Assistant Principal of the Year. Her background includes:

  • Degrees: Master of Education in Educational Leadership (Florida Gulf Coast University) and Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (University of Central Florida).
  • Certifications: Gifted Endorsement, along with Reading and English as a Second Language (ESL) certifications.
  • Leadership Highlights: Named Assistant Principal of the Year and led her previous school to earn recognition as both a Leader in Me Lighthouse School and a Legacy School.

Throughout her administrative career, Elek has established a strong record of academic progress, staff support, and student-centered leadership. She helped guide Meadow Park Elementary from a 'C' to an 'A' state grade, while also elevating Sallie Jones Elementary from a 'B' to an 'A'. Beyond academic benchmarks, she led Sallie Jones Elementary to achieve national recognition as a Leader in Me Legacy School and built school-wide PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) frameworks that decreased office discipline referrals by 30%.

"I believe a principal's greatest responsibility is creating the conditions where every child can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally," Elek said regarding her vision for school leadership.

As the school year gets underway, the Amerman community will have opportunities to meet and welcome their new principal at upcoming back-to-school events.
