Early Childhood Creativity Takes Center Stage at Old Village School

The Old Village School sign surrounded by daffodils and "The Rock of Ages" exhibit featuring many small stone cairns built by students.

The grounds of Old Village School were transformed into a vibrant outdoor gallery this week as early childhood students debuted their latest art installations for families and the community. The exhibit, which featured a diverse range of media, highlighted the intersection of play, engineering, and fine motor development.

From Found Objects to Masterpieces

The exhibition showcased the students' ability to reimagine everyday materials. Highlights included:

  • The Rock of Ages: A collaborative outdoor installation featuring stone cairns that explored balance and patience.

  • Architectural Explorations: Intricate structures built from wood scraps, demonstrating early spatial awareness and design.

  • Upcycled Creations: Birdhouses fashioned from cardboard and duct tape, alongside "creature" sculptures made from egg cartons and feathers.

The Power of Process Art

In early childhood education, the focus is often on the process rather than just the final product. By experimenting with watercolor washes, beaded glass lanterns, and clay mobiles, students practiced critical developmental skills. These projects encourage sensory exploration, hand-eye coordination, and the confidence to make creative choices.

The event served as a beautiful reminder of the wonder and imagination present in the district’s youngest learners. Congratulations to the students and staff at Old Village School for a successful and inspiring showcase.
