Meads Mill Middle School has a rich history in
the Northville Public Schools. Established in
1975 as a junior high, Meads Mill became the
Northville middle school exemplar in 1985.
Students in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade were brought
together in a school focused on the unique
educational, social and developmental needs of
‘tweens.
Meads Mill continues the tradition of
student-focused instruction based on the
developmentally appropriate techniques for
middle school aged students. Our students are
truly in the middle between elementary school
and the high school. It is our mission to help
our students develop their skills and talents as
they traverse this transition.
Our teachers and administrators are dedicated
to the safety, growth and development of our
students. We plan and work together for the
benefit of the students entrusted to us. We
offer an extensive curriculum and elective
program designed to both meet the Grade Level
Expectations for the State of Michigan and
provide our students with exploratory and
academic challenges.
Currently, we house 892 students. We have 24
academic teachers and 10.5 elective teachers.
Our support staff includes two counselors, Mrs.
Bilbie-Bekius (A-K) and Mr. Jack Wickens (L-Z);
two learning consultants, and two resource room
teachers. In addition, we have services of a
shared media specialist, school social worker,
school psychologist, and speech pathologist. The
school administrators are Assistant Principal
Mr. Ray Balutowicz and Principal Dr. Susan Meyer
Meads Mill is involved with a number of
community based activities. We support the
Detroit Zoo, the Kids Against Hunger Program,
Children’s Hospital, and various other special
programs through team and whole-school drives.
Additionally, Meads Mill has held a crane-making
contest every year since 2006. The 1000 cranes
are sent to Children’s Peace Park in Hiroshima,
Japan.
The leadership program gives students
opportunities for leadership training. Students
in seventh and eighth grade can elect
Leadership. The classes support various school
activities, like Spirit Week and Veteran’s Day.
The Leadership students serve as ambassadors for
our 5th grade visitors.
Parents play an integral role at Meads Mill
as grade level volunteers, Parents and Lunch
(PAL), office support, and numerous other
activities through our PTSA. PTSA meets monthly
on the third Thursday September – November, and
January – May. Our PTSA supports our students
and our educational program. We even have bake
