Welcome

“Teaching for Learning for All” is the mission of Moraine Elementary School. The school’s focus on student learning that is intrinsically motivated and its efforts in creating a Professional Learning Community foster a culture at Moraine where students and educators alike have a passion for learning.

This commitment to learning is reaffirmed in the Moraine School Vision, adopted in June 2004 by the Moraine Staff, PTA, and Student Council. Moraine’s vision, which guides the school improvement process, is the target toward which teachers, students, and parents work together to achieve. Key components of Moraine’s vision include:

• To be an exemplary school, Moraine Elementary will provide curriculum that stimulates a deeper understanding of a core curriculum. The school designs instruction that promotes life-long learning and enables students to become effective, productive citizens.
• To be an exemplary school, Moraine Elementary will be a considerate, respectful, supportive community where staff is committed to working collaboratively.
• To be an exemplary school, Moraine Elementary will function as a professional learning community in which teachers are leaders.
• To be an exemplary school, Moraine Elementary School will recognize and value the individual student. Those within the school practice concern for each student and provide a pyramid of support.
• To be an exemplary school, Moraine Elementary will recognize the importance of creating effective partnerships with the larger community.
• To be an exemplary school, Moraine Elementary school will provide a positive environment that compels children to grow and succeed to their greatest potential.

Together with an emphasis on academic support and achievement, Moraine’s “Stand Up for Justice” program focuses on the importance of building strong character in our children. Eight core principles – honesty, respect, caring and compassion, courage, nonviolence, service to community, responsibility, and fairness – serve as the foundation. These principles are a part of the daily fabric of life at Moraine. They are integrated into the Moraine School Constitution, and are acknowledged each morning as two students who have demonstrated a principle in action have the honor of raising the American flag.

The first goal is for students to understand each principle. The second is that they experience the principles as having value in daily life. Finally, students are encouraged to live these principles in the classroom, on the playground, and at home. Parents play an integral role in achieving the school’s principles. Parent-teacher conference attendance this past year was 99 percent.

Moraine’s enrollment includes approximately 470 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Moraine also offers a district-wide categorical classroom for students with learning differences, and before-and after-school childcare through Wondergarten and Kids’ Club programs.

Staff at Moraine includes principal Denise Bryan and 18 classroom teachers along with special area teachers for art, foreign language, media, music, and physical education. Professional support comes from a learning consultant, resource room and instructional support teacher, school social worker, speech and language teacher and support personnel for students with special needs
