Stormwater carries untreated water runoff
directly into creeks and rivers and, by doing
so, impacts our environment. Improper disposal
of wastes, such as oil, paint, fertilizer and
pesticides will pollute the stormwater and
destroy plants, endanger wildlife and affect
drinking water. Never dump materials, including
grass clippings, into any storm drain or
drainage canal, and be sure to keep any catch
basins on your property free of grass clippings
and debris.
Northville Public Schools is committed to our
environment and will strive to be good stewards
of the land within our jurisdiction and to use
appropriate Best Management Practices (BMPs) to
contribute to the improvement of water quality
within the Rouge River Watershed where they are
located.
Northville Public Schools encourages all
students, faculty, staff, parents, and visitors
to get involved with the opportunities provided
by the local water shed groups including Friends
of the Rouge, Southeast Michigan Council of
Governments (SEMCOG). NPS is committed to
“promoting restoration and stewardship of the
Rouge River ecosystem through education, citizen
involvement and other collaborative efforts, for
the purpose of improving the quality of life of
the people, plants and animals of the
watershed”.
Northville Public Schools has developed and is
implementing a
“Stormwater Management Program
Plan” (SWMPP) which has been created to provide
guidance and instruction for compliance with
Part I Section B and Part I Section C.1.a. of NPDES MIS040000 (Stormwater Discharges from
Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4s)
With Controls Based on Six Minimum Measures) and
the accompanying Certificate of Coverage No.
MIS040078 issued to Northville Public Schools on
May 7, 2007. The Stormwater Management Program
Plan (SWMPP) and this implementation plan are
designed to reach specific goals regarding
discharge of pollutants from NPS stormwater
systems and properties into the Main 1&2 Rouge
River Sub-watersheds. The ultimate goal in
implementing the plan is to decrease discharge
of pollutants to the Maximum Extent Possible (MEP)
and to protect the waters of the State of
Michigan in compliance with requirements of the
Federal and Michigan regulations.
Northville Public Schools is committed to
practicing sound stormwater management practices
and to observance and adherence to all local,
state and federal stormwater rules and
regulations.
Septic Tank Maintenance Information
From the Rouge National Wet Weather
Demonstration Project
Septic systems are waste water treatment
systems that use septic tanks and drainfields to
dispose of sewage in soil. They are typically
used in rural or large lot settings where a
sanitary sewer is not available. More
information is available at our
Septic
Tank Maintenance page.
