Classroom Curriculum

The Early Childhood Intervention Program utilizes the AEPS (Assessment Evaluation Program System) to guide the curriculum.  

The focus is on functional skills and on motivating activities. The AEPS curriculum is aligned with the state of Michigan's preschool educational standards.

Literacy

  • To develop vocabulary and language awareness, sound production in addition to print and letter awareness
  • To develop skills in recalling events and emergent reading

Math

  • To develop number awareness, 1:1 correspondence, mathematical concepts (such as number concepts, measurement, geometry and spatial sense, patterns and relationships, data collection, organization and representation), and comparison language
  • To develop skills in categorizing, sequencing, problem solving

Science

  • To develop awareness of sensory experience and systems, scientific concepts (such as physical and life sciences, earth and the environment) and body awareness

The Arts

  • To develop the awareness of dance, music, visual arts and dramatic play

Fine Motor/Gross Motor

  • To develop bilateral motor coordination, and emergent writing skills
  • To develop balance, mobility and play skills

Adaptive

  • To develop independence with snack time, personal hygiene, and manipulation of outerwear

Social Communication

  • To develop social communication interactions, production of words, phrases and sentences
  • To develop interaction with others, knowledge of self and others
